Important Processing Limitations
For standard lacquered back painted glass:
- Tempering: ❌ NOT compatible. The organic coating decomposes and carbonizes at the high temperatures required for tempering (approximately 600°C+). The coating will burn, discolor, bubble, and lose adhesion.
- All cutting, drilling, edge grinding, and notching must be completed BEFORE the lacquer coating is applied, as no further fabrication is possible after painting.
- For safety glass requirements, glass must be tempered BEFORE painting, or post-temperable (ceramic frit) back painted glass must be used instead.
- Installation should be completed promptly after un-crating to prevent any potential contamination from environmental moisture.
For post-temperable back painted glass:
- Tempering: ✅ Fully compatible. The ceramic frit or inorganic coating fuses to the glass surface during the tempering process.
- All cutting, drilling, and processing must be completed before heat treatment.
- The coated side should face up in the furnace during heat treating.
