KINGSTAR GLASS
F Green Float Glass | Body-Tinted Solar Control Architectural Glass from KINGSTAR BUILDING GLASS
KINGSTAR BUILDING GLASS Green Float Glass is a premium body-tinted architectural glass manufactured by incorporating carefully selected metal oxides into the glass batch during the float production process. The result is a uniform, distinctive green color that permeates the entire glass thickness—with color intensity that naturally increases as thickness increases. Green float glass offers solar control performance comparable to grey tints while maintaining significantly higher visible light tra
Green float glass is a body-tinted soda-lime silicate glass produced by adding metal oxides to the glass batch during the float manufacturing process. Unlike surface-coated glass, the color is integral to the entire glass thickness—ensuring that the aesthetic and solar control properties remain consistent even after cutting, edging, or processing. The green tint provides effective solar control and glare reduction while allowing higher visible light transmission than grey or bronze tints.
The glass is produced in compliance with EN 572-1, EN 572-2, and EN 572-9 standards, and is CE-marked for use in building applications. KINGSTAR BUILDING GLASS green float glass is available in a full range of thicknesses and can be processed into tempered glass, laminated glass, insulating glass units, bent glass, coated glass, and mirrors.
Performance Data - 6mm Green Float Glass
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Light Transmittance (VLT) | 73% - 77% |
| External Light Reflectance | 7% |
| Solar Absorption | 51% |
| Solar Factor (SF) / SHGC | 0.62 - 0.64 |
| Shading Coefficient (SC) | 0.64 |
| U-Value (W/m²K) | 5.7 |
Performance by Thickness
| Thickness | Light Transmittance (VLT) | External Reflection | SHGC | U-Value (W/m²K) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4mm | 66% | 11% | 0.53 | 2.7 (IGU) |
| 6mm | 73% - 77% | 7% | 0.62 - 0.64 | 5.7 |
Performance values are typical and may vary slightly by production batch. Thicker glass provides deeper color intensity and increased solar absorption.
Based on 6mm monolithic glass.
Green float glass delivers an excellent balance—offering solar control performance comparable to grey tints while maintaining substantially higher visible light transmission (77% vs. 44% for grey).

Q1: What is the difference between green float glass and grey float glass?
A: Green float glass offers solar control performance comparable to grey tints while maintaining significantly higher visible light transmission. For 6mm glass, green float glass delivers 77% VLT with an SHGC of 0.62, while grey float glass provides only 44% VLT with an SHGC of 0.61. This means green float glass allows substantially more natural daylight into the building while providing similar solar heat reduction—making it the preferred choice for projects requiring both solar control and bright, naturally lit interiors.
Q2: What is the SHGC and visible light transmittance of green float glass?
A: For 6mm green float glass, the SHGC (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient) is approximately 0.62, and the visible light transmittance (VLT) is approximately 77%. The external light reflectance is approximately 7%. As glass thickness increases, color intensity deepens, solar absorption increases, and both VLT and SHGC decrease slightly. For 4mm green float glass in an insulating glass unit, VLT is 66% with an SHGC of 0.53.
Q3: Can green float glass be tempered or combined with other glass products?
A: Yes. KINGSTAR BUILDING GLASS green float glass is fully compatible with tempering (EN 12150), laminating (EN ISO 12543), and insulating glass unit fabrication. It can also be heat-strengthened, bent, coated, silvered, sandblasted, or acid-etched. When combined with Low-E coatings or used in insulating glass units with argon gas fills, green float glass can achieve significantly improved thermal performance (U-values below 1.0 W/m²K) while maintaining its distinctive aesthetic and solar control properties.
Tinted Glass is produced by the float process with the addition of small
quantities of metaloxides to color the normal clear glass mix. This coloration is achieved
through adding metaloxides at the smelting stage. Addition of color does not affect the
basic properties of the glass, even though visible light reflectance will be slightly higher
than clear glass.
tinted float glass can reduce transmission of the sun's harmful rays by up to
80% thus minimizing fading to interior furnishings .
The comprehensive range of soft natural colors compliments and harmonizes with
modern building materials to provide an exciting and different look to new or existing buildings .
Could be easily cut, bent, insulated, lami nated, lacquered, coated, tempered or heat
strengthened and in addition can be silk-screened.
