What is Shower Tempered Glass?

Shower tempered glass is a safety glass product manufactured specifically for use in bathroom shower enclosures and doors. The glass is produced through a thermal tempering process where standard annealed float glass is heated to approximately 700°C and then rapidly cooled with high-pressure air. This process creates compressive stress on the surface and tensile stress in the interior, resulting in glass that is approximately four to five times stronger than annealed glass of the same thickness.

The tempering process also alters the breakage characteristics of the glass. Upon impact, tempered glass disintegrates into small, blunt-edged fragments rather than sharp, jagged shards.
